Celebrating Your Workmates

Back in the day, in an unconnected offline environment, a milestone such as retirement was often celebrated in the workplace with a symbolic token, like the classic gold watch..

The 30-year, or even 10-year, work anniversary is now a rare experience. Length of job tenure has dropped dramatically over the past couple decades, so it shouldn’t surprise anyone to find out that among employees born between 1980 and 1996, 60% are open to a new job.So how do you celebrate your workmates’ milestones given the velocity and frequency of job hopping? Even though work anniversaries have become more uncertain, we shouldn’t give up on recognition. After all, a workplace that practices recognition is more likely to succeed in creating a culture that attracts and retains top talent.

Workmates has taken note of these competing trends (i.e. recognition is needed yet harder in the job hopping age) and has responded by showcasing employees’ anniversaries and birthdays in its social feed.

But don’t Facebook and LinkedIn offer the same milestone notifications? Yes, they do; but many companies disable access to Facebook at work, and even if it’s enabled, not everyone wants to combine their work life with their personal life. LinkedIn tends to draw active users only when they need to look for a new job, so notifications could be weeks old by the time you see them. Workmates fills this gap by connecting your entire team on one work-focused social network.

Workmates automatically posts work and birthday anniversaries to the employees’ timelines, which gives others the ability to like, comment on, and react to these notifications. This level of social engagement complements the old-age office traditions of cutting a cake as a team with current communication styles.

We here at HR Cloud believe it’s important to honor your employees or colleagues’ accomplishments and celebrate them on a personal level. Find out now and download Workmates.
